Margaret “Midge” A. Smith, 68, of Jefferson, died Aug. 6 at Golden Living Center in Fort Atkinson.
Born May 22, 1944, in Illinois, to John and Ruth (McGuire) Smiley, she married Terry Smith on Aug. 31, 1990, in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1997.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson.
She worked at the former Schweiger Industries and also at Countryside Nursing Home (now Alden Estates of Jefferson), both in Jefferson.
She is survived by four sons, Lawrence “Wayne” (Diane) Taft and John (Sandra) Taft, both of Elkhorn, Troy Taft of Fort Atkinson and Andrew (Carmen) Taft of Jefferson; two stepsons, Cory (Linda) Smith of Fort Atkinson and Tracy (Tammy) Smith of Delavan; one stepdaughter, Tonya (Alex) Bruenig of Jefferson; four grandsons, Mark Kuman and Zachary, Joshua and Tristan Taft; 3 granddaughters, Holly Camacho and Kourtney and Andrea Taft; one great-grandson, Kaden Camacho; two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Valentina Camacho; two sisters, Betty and Barb Smiley, both of Fort Atkinson; many nieces and nephews and her former husband, Lawrence Taft of Elkhorn.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Daniel Taft; and one brother, John E. Smiley, Jr.
Graveside memorial services were held at Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater on Aug. 13, with the Rev. Paul Scharrer officiating.
The Olsen Funeral Home in Jefferson handled arrangements.
