Fairhaven Director of Leisure Services Brian Robison welcomed residents to the annual volunteer appreciation lunch outside the main entrance on Aug. 8.
Adding to the fun of the meal, complete with barbecue pork and corn on the cob, was entertainment provided by the Vintage Mix Quartet, quadruplets who have grown to be a “fav” of the residents after making more than 10 appearances during their high school years.
Robinson said residents of Fairhaven and Prairie Village in Whitewater volunteer in numerous ways to help realize the goal of “adding life to years.”
Volunteer areas include serving on resident committees, leading organized programs and assisting with large programs and special events and helping with Sunday vespers, community relations, the mini-mart, the coffee cart and coffee hour, pet therapy, transportation services and gardeners around the campus.
“An overwhelming number of residents throughout the Fairhaven family volunteer throughout the year, making this a great place to live as a resident, visit as a family member or loved one and work as an employee,” Robinson said.
“I can’t say enough to thank you for everything you have done to make the residents’ lives better in various ways, and that you will continue to do,” he added.
Fairhaven resident Chuck Graffius told the gathering, with a little laugh, “As retired people, we never get a day off!”
Graffius also took advantage of the event to acknowledge residents who have been named Volunteer of the Month during the past year.
