After encountering a serious, high-priority situation, Whitewater Unified School District officials have agreed to bring into the fold a consultant to analyze Whitewater Middle School’s roof.
“We’ve had some not-so-pretty issues,” Matthew Sylvester-Knudtson, director of business services, said at a School Board meeting March 19.
During his discussion with elected officials, Sylvester-Knudtson shared images of decay on the top of the middle school’s roof, which has resulted in leaks in at least three rooms. Much of the existing infrastructure is at least 30 years old.
Sylvester-Knudtson said the area of the middle school’s roof in decay has a temporary fix — patching — which is expected to last through the end of the school year, and possibly into the summer.
Beyond the upcoming warm weathered months, however, Sylvester-Knudtson emphasized a long-term solution will be needed to stave off the current issuances of roof leaks.
