The Village of Palmyra will have a new leader earlier than expected after the resignation of Village President Dave Turner.
Turner cited personal medical reasons in regards to his decision to move on in the resignation letter he submitted to the village on Wednesday.
“Serving on the Village Board has been a fulfilling, learning experience for me, for which I am grateful,” Turner wrote. “I appreciate the support provided me during my tenure, and I wish you every success in your current and future endeavors.”
Turner did not publicly disclose specifically what his health issues have been but stated that he is doing well.
“I have done well and will continue to do well. I have just needed to take care of myself, and that’s what I am doing,” Turner said.
Turner endorsed the current board, stating that its direction and motivations positively impact the community.
“I think the board has done a good job, and I believe they will continue to do a good job,” Turner said. “It’s the entity itself, not just one person.”
Turner ended his letter by stating, “If I can be of any assistance in transferring responsibilities appropriately, please let me know.”
A special Village Board meeting has been scheduled for this Monday, Jan. 29, to appoint a new village president.
