UWW to have viewing of eclipse

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Physics Department will host a viewing of this Monday’s solar eclipse at the Observatory on the hill behind Hyer Hall.

The partial solar eclipse will be as a result of the moon passing between the Earth and the sun. It will start at 11:52 a.m. and will reach its maximum at 1:17 p.m. with 84.97 percent of the sun covered by the moon. It will end at 2:39 p.m.

Lecturer Juliana Constantinescu will lead the viewing. Eclipse glasses will be available to share so people do not look directly at the sun.

This Friday, Aug. 18, professor Bob Benjamin will give a lecture in Room 140 of Upham Hall on the UW-Whitewater campus about what happens during a total solar eclipse, the frequency of eclipses and their applications in science.

Both events are free and open to the public.
