Charges filed in armed robberies

The Whitewater Police Department has filed charges in two separate robberies that occurred in 2016.

Charges were filed with the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office on Feb. 2 in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Dec. 6 at the La Preferida grocery store at 132 W Main St., Whitewater.

The suspects have been identified as Nathan M. Etheridge, 26; Eric J. Fairchild, 34; and Ryan Haynes, 42, all from the Madison area. They are currently confined in the Dane County Jail on additional armed robbery charges through the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.

According to a press release issued by the Whitewater Police Department, on the afternoon of Dec. 6 the suspects planned to drive to a neighboring community to rob a bank, but instead chose to divert to Whitewater to the La Preferida grocery store, which they were more familiar with.

Etheridge has been charged with three counts of armed robbery. Fairchild has been charged with three counts of party to the crime of armed robbery. Haynes has been charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of a party to the crime of armed robber.

Area man charged in Subway robbery

Whitewater Police detectives also filed charges with the Walworth County District Attorney’s office on Feb. 2 in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on March 10 of last year at Subway, 757 East Milwaukee Street.

Suspect Gregory L. Brackinridge, Elkhorn, 52, was charged with two counts of armed burglary with a dangerous weapon, three counts of battery and four counts of possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Brackinridge was taken into custody on Aug. 8 by the Madison Police Department regarding a home invasion. Whitewater Police Department detectives were able to link evidence to Brackinridge and GPS records to the vehicle he was operating at the time of the robbery. Brackinridge’s parole has been revoked and he has been returned to prison pending his court appearances.
