The 2nd Annual Golf Fore! Whitewater Kids Outing is set to begin at noon Sunday, Aug. 21 at Prairie Woods Golf Course, 12601 E. County Road A, Avalon. The event is sponsored by the Whitewater Unified School District’s Leadership Team.

Golfers can register as foursomes or as individuals online at www.wwusd.org or beginning at 11 a.m. the day of the event at the golf course. To get them prepared for the event, these golfers may want to check out some of the Best golf reviews on websites like swazygolf.com so they can see what equipment will work for them on the day, as well as teach them a few moves that will support their playing.

Opportunities also exist to: sponsor a hole; donate items for the silent auction, raffle or prizes; or attend only the dinner reception beginning at 5 p.m. Details about those options can also be found on the district’s website.

At the dinner, the 2016 Friend of Whitewater Kids award recipients will be recognized, including the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Community Optimist Club (as a service organization), First Citizens State Bank (business), Tom Ganser (media) and Aurelio Callope, Chuck Nass and Lisa Otterbacher (community members).

Proceeds from the outing support district programs.

Doug Parker, principal of Whitewater High School, said that the support from last year’s outing allowed the team to present two seniors with $1,000 scholarships to pursue their post-secondary education.

“I am very proud of how our community rallies around our students,” Parker said.

“Our share of the proceeds from last year’s golf outing was an important shot in the arm for the Whitewater Music Parents Association, enabling us to on continue supporting our K-12 music department,” Don Deal, co-president of the Whitewater Music Parents Association, said. That support includes funding of summer music camp scholarships and the annual Roxa Pritchett scholarship for a graduating senior continuing his or her music studies.

The golf outing also supports the outreach efforts of the Whippet Athletic Booster Club that since 2010 has donated more than $50,000 for athletic programs. Items include: a timing system for the track, improvements to the weight room, college scholarships for student athletes and concussion baseline testing for all student athletes.

Lanora Heim, WUSD Special Education/Pupil Services Director said the golf outing is a primary source of donations for the district’s Family Emergency Fund aimed at assisting families in crisis situations.

“In the past couple of years we have used it many times to help families from getting evicted. It often prevents homelessness. In addition, we have used it to provide temporary housing for families that have had a house fire or are escaping abusive situations,” Helm said.

“On a sad note, over the past two years we have donated to ten separate families to support them after the death of a parent,” she added.
