After reviewing a list of concerns, Whitewater officials have decided to deny an applicant’s request to serve alcohol in the community.
As is the case with all applicants, Thomas John Albrecht’s background was scrutinized when he sought a license to serve alcohol at local establishment Station 1.
Albrecht, who lives in a rural community outside Whitewater, had previously pled guilty in the city on two counts of underage alcohol consumption and one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer. He also pled guilty on a charge of disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle in Ozaukee County.
The offenses, coupled with the fact Albrecht did not list all of them on his application, prompted the Alcohol License Committee to recommend denying his application. The Common Council followed suit with the recommendation and officially denied Albrecht’s application for at least a year at a meeting June 21.
In other recent business, the council:
-Named former council member Jim Winship to the Community Development Authority. Winship, who previously served on the CDA as a council representative, will now pull up a chair on its board as a citizen representative.
-Amended the city’s salary structure to incorporate lifeguards and other staffers within the city’s Whitewater Aquatic Center. As of this month, the WAC facility fell under the auspices of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, rather than operating as an independent organization.
-Approved the city’s wastewater utility compliance maintenance annual report. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources requires all municipalities annually report on conditions of their wastewater treatment facilities. As noted in the report, Whitewater’s facility earned a grade of “A” in all major areas of the report.
