The Color Guard of American Legion Post 173 (top) leads the Memorial Day parade that included members of the Whitewater High School marching band (above.) Following the parade, Brigadier General Charles Scharine, U.S. Army (Ret.) served as the guest speaker at a ceremony and in closing, expressed the hope and belief that Americans are becoming more aware of the sacrifices made. During the ceremony, which was led by Post 173 Commander Steve Nass, the names of the 23 local veterans that died in the past year were read followed by a gun salute, and the playing of Taps by WHS trumpet players Elliott McCullough and Jacob Zuehlke.
