District seeks input for potential referendum

The Whitewater School Board has reviewed a long-range facilities plan with school improvement projects totaling approximately $23.5 million.

With assistance from facilities engineers, Eppstein Uhen Architects, J.P. Cullen, and in consultation with administrators and staff, the district has identified facilities needs for:

  • Safety and security upgrades
  • ADA accessibility improvements
  • Capital maintenance projects, and:
  • Modifications to priority learning spaces at all schools – including a gym addition and significant renovation to LINCS Elementary.

Earlier this spring, workshops with community leaders from the Citizens Financial Advisory Committee and over 70 residents were held to gather feedback on key findings and the growing needs of aging facilities and updates to learning spaces.

The WUSD Board is now asking for public input on identified projects, preliminary costs, and tax impacts prior to considering a November facilities referendum.

School Perceptions, an independent Wisconsin-based firm with expertise in conducting community education surveys, has mailed the survey to all district households.

Residents have until May 23 to complete the survey by mail or online. For survey access for an additional adult household member, residents should contact the district at (262) 472-8700 to receive an individual access code that can be used at www.survey2000.com.

Results from the community survey will be presented to the board at a special board meeting on June 6 at 6 p.m. Community members are welcome to attend.

Results will also be posted to the district’s website at www.wwusd.org at the “WUSD Facilities Planning” link.

“We are committed to involving all stakeholders in the planning as well as the solutions,” WUSD Business Manager Nathan Jaeger said. “Our efforts to address needs should align with the priorities of our residents. I am confident we will arrive at a solution that reflects responsible financial planning, protects future operational needs, and keeps our schools competitive with neighboring districts and communities.”
