Radio station chooses project as its community challenge
The WTMJ Cares program announced on the radio earlier this week that it had chosen Treyton’s Field of Dreams in Whitewater as it’s next community challenge.
Sports host Greg Matzek said he is teaming up with Treyton’s in an effort to complete the fundraising efforts needed.
Treyton, who died as a result of a car crash several years ago, was a huge baseball fan. Following his death, his family went on a mission to build a little league field in Treyton’s name.
The $45,000 needed to complete the project will be used to build a family pavilion and concession on the property. Matzek said he is asking WTMJ listeners to donate $50 to the cause.
“That gives you the chance to make an inspirational quote to be put on a mural on the back of the home dugout. Kids will read that mural and receive your life advice to guide them to reach their own dreams,” a press release about the challenge stated.
Examples of quotes Matzek gives in his blog on www.wtmj.com are: “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice,” “Measure twice, cut once,” and “Do only great things.”
The on-air drive will go through early May and will include a radiothon later this month. In his blog, Matzek said he’ll keep listeners updated on the progress and will speak with Treyton’s friends and family.
“In time you will learn what truly great people the Kilar’s are, and how the small community of Whitewater has embraced this project,” he wrote.
