The League of Women Voters, Whitewater Area will host its fall kick-off meeting Thursday, Sept. 17 in the Whitewater City Hall Chambers and is open to the public.
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., that night a social hour will be held providing the opportunity for league members and guests to mingle, enjoy refreshments and learn more about the league. The League’s new president, Mary Beth Byrne and the Wisconsin Executive Director, Andrea Kaminski, will also offer an overview of priorities and plans.
At 7:30 p.m., Whitewater City Manager Cameron Clapper will speak on the State of the City. He is expected to discuss the newest additions to improve the quality of life in Whitewater as well as discussing the challenges facing the city on a tight budget. Following Clapper’s speech the public will have the opportunity to ask him questions.
The League is described as a “a trusted nonpartisan grassroots leadership organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, and works to increase understanding of public policy through advocacy and voter education. The local chapter helps with voter registration services and conducts local candidate forums as well as sponsors speakers on pertinent issues of citizenly concern. The League offers its members the opportunity to serve as leaders in the Whitewater community and shape the issues that ensure health, vibrancy, fairness and strength.
