Thirteen members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s and women’s track and field programs, as well as the women’s team, were acknowledged by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in the organization’s 2015 NCAA Division III All-Academic Honors.
The Warhawk women’s team was named an All-Academic Team after posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.13 on a 4.0 scale. A total of 170 Division III women’s teams earned a 3.10 GPA or higher to qualify for the recognition.
Senior captains Amanda Brom (Jefferson) and Shelby Mahr, juniors Megan Buse, Tyler Henderson and sophomore Leah Richter were each selected as All-Academic individuals on the women’s side.
Senior captains Jared Denu, Mike Judd and Dawson Miller (Whitewater), seniors Justin Bowers, Devin Grainger, Tony Urbanski, junior Alex Tassoul and freshman Cameron MaGee represented the men as All-Academic individuals.
To qualify for All-Academic accolades, student-athletes must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and must have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
Brom placed 12th in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, qualifying for the national meet with a school-record time in the event. Mahr qualified for five throwing events (two indoor, three outdoor), claiming All-America honors in four of them, including a national runner-up finish in the discus.
Buse and Richter were a part of the Warhawks’ top 25 outdoor 4×400-meter relay team, while Henderson ranked among the top 35 in the triple jump (indoor and outdoor).
Miller competed in three events at national meets in 2015, winning the national title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Judd was a two-time qualifier in hurdles events, Bowers and Tassoul competed at the outdoor meet in the long jump and Urbanski participated in the 800-meter run. Denu, Grainger and Urbanski reached the national indoor meet as a part of the 4×400-meter relay. Denu was also an indoor qualifier in the 400-meter dash and the distance medley relay, along with Miller and Urbanski.
MaGee finished 22nd in the outdoor long jump to earn a spot on the All-Academic list.
A total of 420 women from 127 schools were selected All-Academic. On the men’s side, 297 student-athletes from 106 institutions made the list.
