The Whitewater High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) celebrated the many accomplishments during the past year of its 43 members and faculty adviser, Cynthia Teal, at an awards banquet Monday.

Participation Awards were presented to 32 members.

Active Membership Awards were given to Jonathan Caldwell, Sally Kate Hixson, Maggie Hough, Caleigh Judd, Keira Kuhnke, Andrea Markham, Justine Mischka, Emma Stutzman and Travis Winger.

Ben Freiermuth, Justin Mischka and Landon Walker were presented with Senior Awards.

Jonathan Caldwell, Andrea Markham and Emma Stutzman were recognized as the Outstanding Members of the Year.

FBLA is the high school division of Future Business Leaders of America-Pi Beta Lambda, established in 1940 to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

After arriving in Whitewater more than 20 years ago, Business Education teacher Cynthia Teal reactivated Whitewater High School’s FBLA Chapter and has served as Whitewater’s FBLA adviser ever since.

The chapter had originally been chartered as a chapter under the name Whitewater City High School.

Last summer, Teal was inducted into in the FBLA Adviser Wall of Fame housed at the National Headquarters in Reston, Virginia.

“FBLA gives WHS student invaluable experience in areas to help the young people succeed and set themselves apart in many areas like: public speaking, finance, management and technology. Students who have had FBLA experience stand out when applying for jobs, college and in the work force,” Whitewater Unified School Board member Gretchen Torres said.

“We should be proud to have the FBLA program at WHS. It continues to be excellent,” she added.
