With the intent of staying current with disaster preparedness efforts, Whitewater officials recently reviewed and revised the city’s emergency operations plan.
While the city has long had such a document in place, city staffers recently went through the document with a fine-tooth comb and updated the latest contact information.
“By preparing a plan, the hope and objective is to reduce as much as possible the negative impacts of a major emergency or disaster on the Whitewater community,” City Manager Cameron Clapper said in explaining the rationale behind the plan.
The Common Council approved the updates April 9.
In other recent business, the council:
- Approved an amendment to the city’s salary structure. Changes reflect the per-game pay offered to sports umpires through the local parks and recreation department. The pay scale has been bumped up, from $25 per game to $35 per game;
- Authorized a request by city staff to install way-finding signs within the Prairie Village development that serves as an extension of Fairhaven Senior Services. The signage is designed to help residents navigate from Burr Oak Trail to the residential area.
City Planner Chris Munz-Pritchard said the signage will include building addresses as a means of further assisting residents and visitors who travel the path;
- Approved closing several city streets May 30 for the Whitewater Police Department’s upcoming K-9 run fundraiser. As has been the case in the past, the annual event takes place along Cravath Lake;
- Purchased a utility vehicle for the city’s wastewater treatment facility that comes with a $15,892 price tag. The vehicle comes with a utility engine that Wastewater Superintendent Tim Reel said has greater durability and longevity than traditional vehicles.
