Annual event slated April 4, rain or shine, at middle school
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater/Community Optimist Club will host the annual Easter Egg hunt on April 4 at 11 a.m. on the grounds at Whitewater Middle School, 401 S. Elizabeth St., weather permitting.
Inclement weather will move the event inside the school, according to event organizers, so the hunt will be held rain or shine.
The event – attended each year by hundreds of local children – will begin with a short invocation, the arrival of the Easter Bunny and McGruff the Crime Dog aboard a Whitewater Fire Department truck before the signal to start the actual egg hunt is given.
Children through 5th grade are welcome to participate and will be grouped as follows: 2-years-old and younger; 3- and 4-year-olds; Kindergarten and first grade; second and third grade; and, fourth and fifth grade.
Children are encouraged to bring their own basket or bag to collect the eggs. Inside the plastic eggs will be a ticket to return in exchange for a small bag of treats. Several “special” eggs will be scattered throughout, earning some “finders” a special basket of treats.
The event is free and open to all Whitewater Unified School District elementary children, family and friends.
