The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Music Department kicked off the fall season with guest artists the Bent Frequency Duo Project Thursday. Next on the docket is the first Music Mosaics Series concert of the season – to benefit the department’s scholarship fund, for students with exceptional talent and academic excellence – featuring the talents of various faculty members and ensembles.
MyungHee Chung will start off this season’s Music Mosaics Series with a piano recital on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. in the Light Recital Hall in the Greenhill Center of the Arts.
Fingers dance across the keys as Dr. Chung paints a musical picture for everyone’s listening pleasure. She will be performing: Beethoven Sonata No. 21 in C major, Three pieces from the Iberia Suite by Albéniz and the Schumann Piano Sonata No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22.
Born in Korea, Dr. Chung started playing the piano at the age of 4 and won prestigious national competitions in Korea by the age of 10. She came to the United States at 17 to study under Tong-Il Han and later attended the Juilliard School in New York on scholarship, studying with Martin Canin, and received her B.M. and M.M. degrees. Her D.M.A. degree is from Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she studied with renowned pianist Gary Graffman.
In August 1995, she joined the faculty at UW-Whitewater, where she is a full professor and keyboard coordinator.
