With a growing list of responsibilities, Whitewater officials recently reviewed a proposal to raise the salary of the city’s sports coordinator position. A final decision, however, will not be handed down until the 2015 budget is minted.
City Manager Cameron Clapper presented the Common Council with a proposal to consider raising the salary of the position, which currently rests at an hourly rate of $12.24.
“With the recent addition of before- and after-school programming in the parks and recreation department, the sports coordinator is being relied upon more and more to assist with coordinating an increasing number of programs,” Clapper said.
The position falls within the city’s Schedule VIII, which includes hourly pay rates ranging from $10 to $17.
Council members agreed a firm salary for the position should be determined as next year’s budget talks begin picking up steam.
In other recent business, the Whitewater Common Council:
• Awarded a $23,138 contract to Madison-based Schreiber/Anderson Associates. The civil engineering design firm is being asked to develop a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian signage program that will eventually be implemented throughout the city.
• Authorized the purchase of a 2015 Ford model ambulance at a cost of nearly $210,000. The new vehicle will replace a 1997 Medtec Ambulance, which has been deemed by city staff as antiquated and at the end of its useful life.
• Approved a requested Nov. 1 extension by applicant Tyler Salisbery for the Class B beer and liquor license he has sought for his soon-to-open Casual Joe’s restaurant.
The license initially was approved last year with the assumption Casual Joe’s would be in operation by Sept. 1. But Salisbery said a number of delays — including renovations to the former Fort Auto Body building it is moving into — have accounted for the requested extension.
