About the musicians

Featured guest artist Roy Wooten is a groundbreaking drummer, inventor, musician, composer, and five-time Grammy Award-winning musician known as “Futureman.” Audiences became curious when “Futureman” first appeared in 1998 playing a “Drumitar” with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. The “Drumitar” is an electronic drum set in the style of a guitar that led Futureman to invent two new keyboards.

“It’s no accident,” Futureman said, “that the more I see how the piano is related to the drum set… the more I see how the drum set is related to the piano.”

Michael Dugan, trombone, is an assistant professor at UW-Whitewater who teaches applied trombone, directs the Trombone Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble II, and plays in the Whitewater Brass Quintet. In addition to his teaching duties, Dugan is an active freelance artist. Equally at home playing jazz and classical music, his versatility has taken him to every imaginable concert venue in the United States.

Matt Sintchak, saxophone, is an avid supporter of contemporary music having commissioned and premiered over 50 works. In addition to solo concerts, he performs regularly with the Ancia Saxophone Quartet, the Sonict Duo, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Bradley Townsend, string bass/improvisation, teaches string bass and improvisation, and conducts jazz combos as well as the alternative styles ensemble at UW-Whitewater. In addition to playing with many notable artists, Townsend performs with area ensembles such as the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Oakwood Chamber Players, Rountree Ensemble, Executive Tea Set, and Arp of the Covenant. His recordings have been reviewed in All About Jazz and the All Music Guide.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Vince Fuh, piano, has been a prominent member of the Madison jazz and classical scenes since 1983. His piano performances and compositions have been featured on numerous recordings, as well as programming for Wisconsin Public Radio and a television series for PBS. In addition to performing, Fuh runs a private teaching studio, serves as clinician for seasonal music programs.
