The Pig in the Park Festival, featuring free admission, live music, a Chops Motorcycle Show and great food is slated June 20 and June 21 on the grounds of Cravath Lake Park in Whitewater.
The event offers a fun, unique weekend for the whole family where some of the best barbeque competitors in the Midwest will compete for a prize purse of $4,600.
On Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m., attendees are invited to purchase tickets at $1 a sample, try the barbeque varieties and award tickets to their favorites. The top three People’s Choice Award recipients will win $250, $100 and $50 respectively.
To wash down the barbeque a variety of beverages will be o hand including sodas, Miller Lite, Coors Lite, select Wisconsin Brewery Company beers, Redd’s Apple Ale and Mike’s Black Cherry.
Teams compete in all four Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned categories — chicken, pork ribs, pork and beef brisket — to be considered for Grand Champion. The judging for the main event is Saturday afternoon and awards will be announced from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday on the music stage.
KCBS, the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with more than15,000 members worldwide, sanctions more than 400 contests coast-to-coast throughout America each year.
The barbeque competitors aren’t the only ones offering good eats as vendors will be selling: pulled pork, corn on the cob, hog wings, ribs, beef briskets, rib tips and handmade popsicles. The festival will also offer wacky games, eating contest and raffles.
For the motorcyclists and bike lovers out there, don’t miss the Chops Motorcycle Show slated June 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show includes a full range of prizes and competitions from custom bikes to sport models and everything in between.
Throughout the event there will be live music by local entertainers including: Friday – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. With A Bullet, and; 8 to 10 p.m., Titan Fun Key; Saturday – 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Forgotten Highway, and; 3 to 6 p.m., a DJ will take the stage. Sound and light production for the live entertainment provided by R&G Productions.
