The planning committee of the Whitewater Relay for Life event stated in a recent press release that it is hoping to have a large number of cancer survivors and teams from Whitewater and the surrounding area attend the event.
Slated Saturday, June 28 at Whitewater High School track and field, organizers announced that those who have been Honorary Cancer Survivors from past years for the Whitewater Relay are welcome and encouraged to attend. A survivor is anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer – whether the fight is just beginning or has been completed, all survivors are encouraged to attend.
A survivor reception meal will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. for survivors. Relay For Life will begin at 3 p.m. with an opening ceremony and the survivor lap is set for 5 p.m. where all survivors in attendance will be honored after with a purple survivor t-shirt.
Relay For Life events feature individuals and teams camping out at an athletic track with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some also hold creative fundraisers at their campsites at the event.
The Relay For Life event is known for bringing together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, and faith-based groups all aimed at furthering the efforts of the American Cancer Society to save lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.
