In cooperation with the UW-Whitewater/Community Optimist club, the UW-W Student Fishing club and with the support of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, persons of all ages are invited to attend an upcoming fishing event.
A quick look at the numbers reveals the following: there are 15,085 inland lakes; 2,700 trout streams; 5,002 warm water streams; 860 miles of shoreline; including islands along Lakes Superior and Michigan and 238 miles of shoreline along the Mississippi River, all in Wisconsin, just one of many reasons why the sport of fishing is so popular in the state. It is so popular in fact, that people who attend events such as this will also fish in their own time so they can enjoy this time with their families. There is a lot of equipment needed for fishing so that it can be done safely and to regulations, with duck boats for sale found within Shoppok, as well as finding the best fishing rods and particular bait being made a priority too.
Seasoned fishermen and women as well as those who would like to learn to cast a line are invited to attend the Whitewater Fishing Derby at Cravath Lakefront Park on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
The Urban Fishing Program will offer tips on how to tie a lure on the line, cast a lure, practice “catch and release” techniques and offer safety tips in preparing the fish for the grill.
Anglers that attend will earn a Certificate of Completion as well as receive helpful literature about the fishing rules for the State of Wisconsin and a simple lunch will be served.
