On Monday, the City of Whitewater issued an update on the order put in place last month requesting that customers run water to prevent water service lines from freezing.
The majority of residents and businesses in the city can safely discontinue keeping a faucet running though there are a few exceptions due to the following areas having extremely shallow water services and water mains:
Buckingham Boulevard from Eden Court to Ventura Boulevard;
Eden Court, and;
Forest Avenue.
Those located in the areas listed above will be notified when running water is no longer required, expected to be in the “near future” according to Water Superintendent Rick Lien.
“The City of Whitewater would like to thank all of our water customers for their cooperation and patience during this very cold and unusual winter that caused some to be temporarily without water,” Lien said.
Lien said numerous city workers also stepped up, joining together to “work nights and through the weekends to ensure all of our customers had access to water in their homes.”
“Without our customers’ patience and without all other city departments helping out in some way with the many frozen services and water main breaks, the situation would have certainly been much worse,” he added.
The unprecedented frost levels throughout the Midwest caused freezing at levels never previously affected, bringing with it lessons which will assist the city – and its customers – going forward.
“Most water utilities across the state communicated and shared with each other their ideas and procedures to help each other deal with the deep frost levels,” Lien said.
“These lessons will better prepare us to provide even greater customer service for future winters to come,” he added.
