Wheelchair basketball teams keep on rollin’

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Womens and Mens Wheelchair basketball teams were honored with a dinner March 16 at the First United Methodist Church in Whitewater in celebration of each team’s achievements in capturing the national title for the 2013-14 season.

In addition, the athletes were recognized for their service in meeting with students of all ages throughout the Whitewater community.

The celebration was spearheaded by Terrie Parenteau and facilitated by the efforts of the FUMC “Prime Time” youth group for high school students.

The UW-W Womens Wheelchair Basketball team won its third consecutive title after defeating the University of Alabama 69-54, completing a perfect 15-0 season.

The UW-W Mens Wheelchair Basketball team defeated host  University of Texas-Arlington 55-54 in an extremely competitive game that featured four lead changes in the final minute of play.  This is the Warhawks’ 11th national title.
