Ice fishing enthusiasts from throughout the area will descend upon Lower Spring Lake in Palmyra on Saturday, Jan. 25, hoping to net the catch of the day or win one of several prizes that will be raffled off.

This is the 29th year the Palmyra Lions Club will host the mid-winter event and the club does its part to try and ensure success for those dropping a line.

The local Lions Club stocked Lower Spring Lake with northern pike in 1995, 1996, 2005, 2009 and 2013, according to Mike Fischer.

“On Sept. 17, 2013, we stocked 450 fish that were 12-15 inches long with each one costing $6.50,” Fischer said.

Pre-registration is not required but all fish must be caught on Lower Spring Lake (located on Highway 59 in Palmyra) during the Fisheree hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.

The Palmyra Lioness will sell a variety of food and drink in the enclosed and heated beach shelter including sweet rolls, hot dogs, brats, chili and coffee while members of the Palmyra Lions Club will man the beer and soda sales. Restrooms will be supplied as well.

Hourly prizes will be awarded for bass, northern and panfish with registration and weigh-in taking place in the beach shelter.

Raffles will be held throughout the day. The Fisherman’s Raffle will include an Eskimo Shark 10-inch power auger, Eskimo Quick Fish 3i portable ice shelter, Beaver Dam tip-ups and other merchandise. The Fisherman’s Raffle drawing will be held at 11 a.m.

A Sports Raffle will feature a variety of items for any Wisconsin sports fan including a Green Bay Packer autographed football, Milwaukee Bucks tickets, Milwaukee Brewers tickets and more.

Also on the docket is a Cash Raffle, to be drawn at 4 p.m. with the following prize designations: $200 – first prize; $100 – second; $75 – third; $50 – fourth, and; $25 – fifth. Tickets for the cash raffle are $2 each or three for $5 and can be purchased from any Palmyra Lions Club member or at the Lakeside BP Bait Shop in Palmyra. Need not be present to win.

The proceeds from the event support the Wisconsin Lions Camp, the Palmyra Food Pantry, Palmyra-Eagle High School scholarships and the restocking of Lower Spring Lake.

Fischer said they are hoping for a good turnout at this family-friendly event.

“Everyone is welcome at the Palmyra Lions Club Fisheree. Stop in, have a brat and a beer or a soda and join in on the fun,” he said.
