Sponsors, volunteers, charity partners praised at thank you reception

The Greater Whitewater Committee debuted their inaugural Discover Whitewater Series Sept. 22 featuring a Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5K and Fit Kid Shuffle. The event saw 563 participants and more than 400 volunteers come together for a successful community event.

GWC, in an effort to build a stronger community, chose five local charity partners to receive the proceeds from the event. Last week, a total of $25,000 was divided equally among Bethel House, UW-Whitewater Athletics, W3 (Working for Whitewater’s Wellness,) the Whitewater Unified School District and the Whitewater Aquatic Center.

On Oct. 22, the GWC and Discover Whitewater committees, charity partner representatives, sponsors and key volunteers gathered at the Whitewater Country Club for a thank you reception and check presentations to the charity partners.

“The city, school district and university came together to make this event a true success,” GWC board chairman, Larry Kachel, said last week.

“Our charity partners provided much needed support and volunteers to help ensure this event’s success; each and every one of them absolutely deserve these funds,” GWC president/CEO Jeff Knight said during the event.

Stacey Kincaid, race director, said she was “honored to have worked with all of the amazing people in this room. The success of this event would not have been possible without this team.”

The next Discover Whitewater Series is slated Sept. 21, 2014. For more information contact Tracy Wilson, marketing coordinator, or Anna Schwarz, race coordinator, at (920) 397-0601 or info@runwhitewater.com.
