More than 250 participants, volunteers, and friends came out Oct. 13 for the third annual Run for Trey event, held in honor of Treyton Kilar who was lost to a drunk driver Sept. 2, 2010.
The number of participants has grown each year, as 210 runners/walkers registered for the 5K course this year. Proceeds from this event will go to the Treyton Kilar Field of Dreams project in Whitewater.
Several local businesses, organizations and individuals donated time to the event including: free massages from Creative Balance in Whitewater, raffle prizes from area businesses, bouncy houses for kids, a brat fry managed by volunteers from Boy Scouts and the UW-W Men’s Swim Team, and a pumpkin patch home grown by Ashley Gilbert, a former classmate and friend of Treyton.
“We want to thank everyone who participated or volunteered today. As we continue to watch the news, we are seeing each day hhow destructive decisions continue to hurt and kill innocent people. Far more important then the money raised today is the awareness of these tragedies. We must come together to work towards a safer, brighter future for all of us,” the Treyton family stated at the event.
“Seeing everyone here today gives us hope. Hope for a better world. Thank you to everyone who has supported us through this tragedy and this project. It means the world to us. God bless you all,” they added.
Furthermore, a special thank you was extended to Carol Anason, Amy Monogue, Heather Devine, Beth Babcock and all of the countless volunteers who made the Oct. 13 event possible.
