‘Fahrenheit 451’ book selected to ‘spark’ reading
The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library will once again be participating in The Big Read annual event. On Monday, Sept. 23, the library will be giving away copies of the book, “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury; copies are limited so interested readers are encouraged to stop in soon.
As part of The Big Read event, the library will sponsor a Guessing Contest in which two lucky winners will win two tickets to Aquila Theatre’s performance of “Fahrenheit 451” on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Young Auditorium. The contest will begin Sept. 23 and end Oct. 4.
In honor of The Big Read, Fahrenheit 451: Spark Reading, library patrons are invited to alter books at the first Maker Monday program. This new monthly library program, open to middle school-aged children through adults will be held on Monday, Sept. 23 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Registration is required for Maker Monday.
On Monday, Sept. 30 there will be a program for young adults entitled Blackout Poetry slated 6:30-7:30 p.m. Young adults (fifth grade and up) will create a poem or six-word memoir by using a marker and eliminating the words not needed from a book page. Refreshments will be served. Registration for Blackout Poetry is required.
A book discussion on “Fahrenheit 451” will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1. This event is open to all to engage in a lively discussion about the classic story by Ray Bradbury.
During The Big Read the unveiling of the Little Free Library is also set to take place with more details forthcoming.
