University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor Richard Telfer opened the 30th annual Fairhaven Lecture Series with a talk entitled “Critical Events and (some) Critical People at UW-Whitewater, 1983-2013.

Telfer complemented his guided tour UWW’s changes and development over three decades with photos of people, buildings and events.

Following his presentation, Telfer answered several questions from the audience of about seventy that included retired employees of UWW.

Also in attendance were former UWW chancellors James Connor and H. Gaylon Greenhill, both of whom spent several years at the helm of UWW during the years covered by Telfer.

Before introducing Telfer, UWW Outreach Program Manager Kari Borne reported 700 presentations by 300 different speakers had been presented to more than 25,000 people over the history of the Fairhaven Lecture Series.

This year’s lecture series is entitled “Turning Points:  Critical Events and Influential People of the Past 30 Years,” and is intended to provide “an opportunity to reflect on the people and efents that have shaped our lives since 1983.”

Eric Grown, an assistant professor of biological sciences at UWW, will deliver a lecture on Sep. 29 entitled, “Nanotechnology’s HUGE Impact on Our Lives Over the Last 30 Years.”

All lectures are free and open to the public and are held on every Monday through Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Fairhaven Retirement Community, 435 West Starin Road, Whitewater.  Street parking is adjacent to the building.
