Nice weather played a role in a successful opening of the “Our Voices, Our Town, Art Walk” on April 5, organizers said.
The Whitewater Arts Alliance, along with the Hamilton House Bed and Breakfast, Studio 84, the SweetSpot, and the Whitewater Historical Society’s Depot Museum have team up for the collaborative event.
Deborah Blackwell, Director of Studio 84, took the lead in coordinating the five different groups in artistic Whitewater-based endeavors in honor of the Big Read.
This year’s Big Read events, coordinated through the Young Auditorium, focuses on Thornton Wilder’s award-winning “Our Town.”
The five organizations will host a series of exhibitions at various gallery hours through Sunday, April 28. The art walk will include the following themed showings:
· “A Day in Whitewater” at the Cultural Arts Center, 402 W. Main St.
· “Artists of Whitewater” at Hamilton House, 328 W. Main St.
· “Our Town: Past and Present” at Studio 84, 121 W. Center St.
· “Visions of the Past” at the Depot Museum, 301 W. Whitewater St.
· “Voices of the Future” at SweetSpot, 226 W. Whitewater St.
Visitors can start at any location and pick up a map to guide them to the other exhibits.
On April 28, all galleries will be open for the closing reception from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Depot Museum will have a variety of on-going events that day from 1-5p.m. for its grand re-opening at the local history museum on Whitewater Street.
