Drugstore theft may be linked to others, police say
Police say a robbery at a pharmacy in Whitewater last Saturday is linked to others in the south-central Wisconsin region.
The robbery happened at Walgreens Pharmacy, 1041 W. Main St., on Jan. 5, the City of Whitewater Police Department said in a news release.
According to police, one suspect entered the drugstore and walked around its aisles with his hands inside his pockets for as long at 13 minutes waiting for other customers to leave the pharmacy counter.
The suspect was wearing a thick jacket and hood exposing only his eyes, police said.
The suspect then presented a pharmacy employee with a note demanding prescription drugs and fled after receiving the requested items.
The suspect didn’t speak or display any weapons.
Police said there have been robberies of similar circumstances in Delavan, Janesville and Madison in the past two months.
In most cases, oxycodone, the generic name for Oxycontin, was identified as the drug being taken.
Police said the two suspects who are believed to be involved in the robberies are not being caught by the stores’ surveillance cameras due to their clothing and knowledge of camera placement, and they do not appear to be deterred by cameras.
The suspect in the Whitewater robbery is described as a white male in his upper 20s to mid-30s, about 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a possible slender build.
