Whitewater will see one contested race April 2

With the deadline for filing candidacy papers having passed, the spring election season in Whitewater is taking shape with one contested race.

On the Whitewater City Council, three seats expire in April. The seats include aldermanic districts 1, 3 and 5, as well as an at-large seat.

In districts 1 and 3, Jim Olsen and Jim Winship, respectively, are running for re-election in uncontested races.

In District 5, newcomer Sarah Bregant, 431 N. Prairie, is the only candidate looking to fill the seat currently held by council president Patrick Singer.

Singer has chosen not to seek re-election for the district in order to run for the  at-large position left vacant by the recent passing of Marilyn Kienbaum.

Singer will battle Andrew Crone for the seat. The council appointed Crone to the position Dec. 18 after considering four candidates.

Two seats also are up this spring on the Whitewater Unified School Board.

Incumbents Brian Brunner and Charles Nass both have seats expiring in April.

Brunner and Nass both plan to seek re-election, and no other residents within the school district’s boundaries have filed candidacy paperwork.

All three Whitewater Town Board seats are up for election.

Incumbent board members, including chairperson Lowell Hagen, 1st side supervisor Rodney Wilson and 2nd side supervisor Norm Prusner have all filed for re-election.  The town will now have an appointed clerk/treasurer.
