The Walworth County Coroner’s office has ruled that the death of a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student, whose body was found at the bottom of a limestone quarry in July, was an accident.
According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the coroner determined Benjamin Fuder, 21, died due to a fall from the rim to the floor of the Whitewater Limestone Quarry.
“The cause of death was due to traumatic head trauma along with significant other conditions, which were the presence of ethanol, cannabinoids and psilocin,” the press release said.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office has concluded the investigation and said it finds no evidence of any criminal behavior associated with Fuder’s death.
Fuder, a 2009 Edgerton graduate, was a UW-Whitewater junior majoring in international studies.
He was last seen in downtown Whitewater at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28.
An extensive search by the Whitewater Police Department led authorities to the quarry, which is located just outside of Whitewater city limits.
The incident occurred just over a year after another UW-Whitewater student was found dead at the quarry.
The body of Mark Wegener, 20, of Franklin was found on the property of Whitewater Limestone Quarry last Memorial Day.
