The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student enrollment for fall 2012 is a record 12,034 students. That’s up from 11,615 students in fall 2011, and 11,557 in fall 2010.
“People see UW-Whitewater as a place where they can be successful and I think our enrollment numbers reflect that,” said Chancellor Richard Telfer. “Many of our academic programs are among the best in the country. Our students know they are learning from dedicated faculty mentors who are tops in their fields and who care about their success. All across campus, there are people and services to support students.”
Telfer said campus efforts to improve student retention and accept more transfer students contributed to the record enrollment.
“Course offerings at UW-Whitewater continue to evolve as well as we prepare our students to become global citizens,” Telfer said. New majors for this year include international business, computer science, environmental science and Japanese, bringing the total number of undergraduate academic programs to 52.
Students involved in extracurricular activities continue to excel. Five athletic teams – football, men’s basketball, gymnastics and men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball – won national championships last year. Student organizations, including the American Marketing Association, Pi Sigma Epsilon and Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization took first-place honors at their national conferences.
