A trial is scheduled for Nov. 13 and 14 for a Whitewater man charged with sexually assaulting his fiancée’s 12-year-old relative.
Edil Manuel Ayala Nataren, 28, appeared in court in custody Sept. 19 for a status conference at which the two-day trial was set. An interpreter assisted Nataren in the court proceedings.
Walworth County Assistant District Attorney Haley J. Rea said her office has received two referrals for other charges that are expected to be added to Nataren’s case.
Rather than waiting for those charges to be filed, Judge John R. Race set a trial, citing the state’s Aug. 15 demand for a speedy trial because the victim is a child.
Nataren pleaded not guilty Aug. 15 in Walworth County Circuit Court to repeated sexual assault of a child, a Class B felony offense, which carries a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint:
The girl told a forensic interviewer that Nataren, whom she knows as Jorge and who lives with relative of hers in Whitewater, “molested” her.
The girl said Nataren had sexual intercourse with and performed oral sex on her at the house in Whitewater between April 1 and June 30. She said Nataren also tried to convince her to perform similar actions on him and wanted to take pictures of her.
