Organizers encourage people to walk in their own neighborhoods
Due to the Safer-at-Home orders being extended until the end of May, Agape House has changed its 5K event, scheduled for May 16th, to a virtual event.
The format will allow participants to “join together” in their own neighborhoods, anytime on that day while socially distancing themselves – to honor, love and support those who have suffered from abuse.
“Reports of abuse have increased drastically in these uncertain times,” organizers stated in a press release.
Therefore, they are asking everyone to join in and Run, Walk or Stroll, while wearing an Agape House t-shirt, if they have one.
“We are also asking you to wear a blue ribbon and/or carry a sign to show your support,” the release states.
The 2020 event t-shirts have already been ordered however, they did add a few extra shirts for those still interested.
To register visit agapehouseheals.org and select “Events” or call 262-275-6466 and provide a name, phone number and email address.
Agape House also has a special request.
“We would love for you to send us your favorite photo by June 1, which we will share on social media for all to see how many people have joined together to support this mission,” they stated.
This virtual 5K event is free but they are accepting donations, which 100 percent of donations received will be used to support Agape House.
Another option is for participants to ask people to sponsor them as there’s also a Support Form on the website.
“The top three with the highest monies donated will win a prize,” organizers said.
Those who raise money and want to be included as a possible top three need to send the support monies by June 1 to Agape House, P.O. Box 68, Walworth, WI 53184. Be sure to include the completed form, or, if not using a form, list the participant’s name, email and phone number with a note designation of: 5K support.
“We hope that hundreds of people will join us from all over the county to show their concern, support and love for those who have suffered from child abuse,” organizers state.
Agape House is the only private residential home and school for teens in the state of Wisconsin. The non-profit organization offers hope and healing to abused or distressed girls ages 12 through 18, and boys ages 12 through 16.
Programs include Christian counseling services, mentoring, individualized educational courses, and a safe environment where the teens can heal. Counseling is also available for family members wishing to break unhealthy generational cycles.
