Big Foot High School Drama Club actors, crew and director have worked hard to make this weekend’s play, “You Can’t Take It With You” a night to remember.

It will be presented under the direction of Gail August, with the final performance at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at Big Foot High School. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students; they’ll be available at the door.

August stepped out of retirement temporarily to help the students by directing this production – which several students said they very much appreciate.

William Volmar is the Student Director, John McHugh is the Stage Manager and Jacob Curtis is the Tech Director in charge of lighting.

Others involved with this weekend’s play include: Madelynn Cascone plays Penelope Sycamore; Nathan Birdsall plays Martin Vanderhof (Grandpa); Margaret Norman plays Alice Sycamore; Jeffery Martin plays Mr. Tony Kirby; Ethan Jackowski plays Mr. Anthony Kirby; Tiffany Borger plays Essie Carmichael; Hanah Nordmeyer plays Boris Kolenkhov; William Volmer plays Paul Sycamore; Jacob Laing plays Ed Carmichael; Anna MacLeod plays Mr. De Pinna; Augustus Foster plays Donald; Lyndsey McIntyre plays Rheba; Lauren Glos plays Wilbur Henderson; Melissa Konkel plays Mrs. Miriam Kirby; Sara Dominguez plays Grand Dutchess Olga Katrina; Celeste Sallee plays Gay Wellington; Aiden Sallee, Amanda Miller, Lacey Klade and Valeria Lopez play the roles of Agents.

The performance would not be possible without a dedicated stage crew, which includes: Declan McHugh, Madison Owens, Alaina Giba, Lilah Wojcik, Crystal Escobar, Abigail Farr, Alexis Boivin, Itzel Ruiz Hernandez, Delila Payton and Taylor Oltrogge.

“You Can’t Take It With You” is a comedic play in three acts by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The original production of the play premiered on Broadway in 1936, and played for 838 performances.

The play won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and was adapted for the screen as You Can’t Take It with You, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director.

“You Can’t Take It With You” is popular among theater programs of high school institutions; it’s been one of the 10 most-produced school plays every year since amateur rights came available in 1939.

The story takes place entirely in the large house of a slightly batty New York City family.
