Flooding wreaks havoc in Walworth

Following heavy rain and flooding in the Oak Knolls subdivision in Walworth, Village President Tom Connelly declared a state of emergency. According to area residents, the basements of 15 homes flooded and one family was forced to leave their home as flood damage left it uninhabitable. It began with what Walworth Village President Tom Connelly describes as “torrential rain” followed by flooding, specifically in the Oak Knolls subdivision.

On Sept. 14, Connelly declared a state of emergency in the village, after finding that “conditions of extreme peril to the safety of person and property have arisen.”

Earlier that day, he said, more rain forecast meant more homes were in danger of flooding.

“I will be declaring a state of emergency due to the recent and continued flooding of Oak Knolls. With forecasted rain and rising floodwaters we are in danger of even more homes flooding,” a post on Connelly’s Village President Facebook page stated.

The village used high-powered pumps to help drain the retention area in Oak Knolls into the east-west storm water utility, which carries flood waters out of the village to the west, according to a press release from the village.
