On Saturday, the Walworth Village President declared a State of Emergency due to torrential rains and excessive flooding, according to a press release from the village. Walworth has received a tremendous amount of rain over a very short period of time and the state of emergency was declared to allow the Village of Walworth to mitigate flooding by any means necessary, the release states. It will also allow those residents most affected by flooding to be part of disaster relief applications with state and federal agencies.
The village is using high powered pumps that are helping drain the retention area in Oak Knolls into the East-West stormwater utility that carries floodwaters out of the village to the west. During this time, Ridge Road from Devil’s Lane to the southern Village limits is closed due to flood mitigation. Citizens are asked to plan ahead and use an alternate route.
A special Board meeting to discuss the flooding events will be held tonight, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Village Hall, 227 N. Main St., Walworth.
