Historical Society to offer tour of Walworth Elementary
The Historical Society of Walworth & Big Foot Prairie, Inc. will host a historical tour of Walworth Elementary School later this month.
The tour is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 25 and guests should meet at the main entrance to the school on Fremont Street. The tour will allow guests to see a display of historic photos and items from the elementary and high school and tour older parts of the present school building.
One of the highlights will be the viewing of the mural, “A Tribute to America” by Gerritt V. Sinclair. The mural was painted in 1934 during the Great Depression as part of the Public Works Art Project.
Members of the local School History Committee will lead the July 25 tour. The event is being offered free of charge and is open to the public.
