A local artist who served on the board painted it
A portrait of Sharon Village President Mark Ruosch was presented at the first Village of Sharon board meeting following this year’s local spring election.
Local artist David Dietrich painted the portrait.
During the April 9 election, Ruosch was re-elected as Village President, a position he has held since 2014.
In addition to his job of looking at a variety of complex issues and concerns facing the community, Ruosch runs his insurance business out of a modest historic building in downtown Sharon.
Previously, Ruosch served as the Sharon Fire Chief for 14 years and was a member of the fire department and rescue squad for 26 years.
Last week when Dietrich unveiled the portrait during the Sharon Village board meeting, it also marked the completion of Dietrich’s service as a village trustee. He was appointed last year to serve the remainder of Michael Brooke’s term.
Dietrich said serving on the board was an eye-opening experience for him.
“It seems to be a very unlikely place for an artist to be, but thank you for the experience to serve,” Dietrich said.
“Overall, I would say this was a great experience and I hope that others can be encouraged to be involved in our local government and community,” he added.
The portrait of Ruosch will be displayed on a wall of the Village of Sharon municipal building.
