The Historical Society of Walworth and Big Foot Prairie will be holding a buffet dinner and program about the History of the Northwestern Military and Naval Academy on Thursday, April 11, at the Starline Factory, 306 W. Front St., Harvard, Illinois.
The program will be presented by Chris Jacobson Brookes. She knows well the inside stories of the academy once located on the south shore of Geneva Lake for she is the daughter of the late Col. James Howard Jacobson, superintendent of the academy.
The academy combined with St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, Wisconsin several years ago. The college prep school is now called St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy. Chris will tell about life at the prestigious academy started by Harlan Page Davidson with leadership later carried on by his son, Col. Royal Page Davidson. Upon the death of Col. Davidson, Rev. Jacobson became the head of the Geneva Lake Academy.
A social hour will occur at 5 p.m. during which visitors can view an exhibit on Northwestern Military and Naval Academy and visit with attendees and speak with Brookes. The buffet dinner will follow at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend. The cost of the buffet dinner and program is $40 including tax and tip. A cash bar will be available.
Reservations accompanied by check are required. Both must be received by April 3 at the Historical Society of Walworth and Big Foot Prairie, P.O. Box 336, Walworth, WI 53184-0336.
