Meghan Dykstra, Molly McEneany and Jaqueline Sanchez represented Big Foot High School at Badger Girls State this summer, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus. A fourth student, Sophia Foster, was also selected, but she went to Japan to study under the Kikkoman Youth for Understanding program.
More than 700 girls from throughout Wisconsin participated in Badger Girls State, which is sponsored and paid for by the American Legion Auxiliary and American Legion Posts. Locally, money was raised for the four girls selected from Big Foot High School.
The girls were part of an imaginary state called Badger, and divided into two parties – Nationalist and Federalist – as a way to represent local government. The attendees also learned about government positions at the “city, county and state” levels.
