Voters that live in the Fontana School District will have determine whether or not they support a referendum that will increase property taxes for four years in Tuesday’s primary election. It’s being sought in an effort to avoid having to reduce staff due to a decline in revenue.
The projected impact on property taxes, according to the district, would be an increase of $96 per year for a $200,000 home, or $156 per year for a $324,000 home – reported as the average in Fontana.
The question, which will be at the end of the ballot, reads:
“Shall the Joint School District Number 8, Village of Fontana, Towns of Delavan and Walworth, Walworth County, Wisconsin be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $750,000 per year beginning with the 2018-2019 school year and ending with the 2021-2022 school year, for non-recurring purposes to maintain the District’s educational programs, small class sizes, individualized instruction and quality of staff?”
To support the referendum, voters should cast a “yes” vote. To deny the district’s request, they should vote “no.”
