Beekeeper Kristine Karlson, of Elkhorn, will present a program about honeybees at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the Lion’s Field House in Williams Bay.
For as long as Karlson can remember, she has loved honeybees. She said as a young girl, she hummed and danced along with the foraging worker bee as it visited flower after flower and knew bees were special little creatures. Karlson will share a slideshow of her beehives and apiaries and facts about bee behaviors and their society. She said products collected from bees’ hive have many benefits, especially medicinal. Nectar, pollen, beeswax, propolis and royal jelly that are harvested from honeybees’ hives are utilized for humans’ well being.
Guests will be able to sample honey from her hives from a few different seasons along with fresh natural bee pollen. Karlson will share information to help encourage bee pollination in people’s backyards as well as recipes using honey to replace sugar and home remedies for good health. She will have products and parts of a beehive to pass and observe.
Karlson operates Bee Haven Honey in Elkhorn.
The program is sponsored by the Lakeland Audubon Society and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served before and after the meeting.
