Williams Bay High School presented a NYC preview concert March 27.
It opened with the school’s jazz band under the direction of Nathan Weirick. They performed, “You Don’t Know what Love Is,” featuring Evan Rees on trombone, followed by “Simba Ti Kaye,” featuring Natasha Trush on alto sax, and Drew Nickelson on trumpet.
The concert band took the stage and performed “Danse Bacchanale,” from Sampson and Delilah, which they were also going to perform at The Intrepid in NYC on their upcoming trip. They followed with “O Magnum Myserium” and “Excerpts from Applachian Spring” featuring “Simpler Gifts.”
After a short break for set-up, the vocal jazz ensemble accompanied by Sue Hoyt, on piano and directed by Hope Wittmus, took the stage. They performed some numbers from the recent solo/ensemble competition: “Since I Fell for You” and “Mas Que Nada” featuring soloists Kyle Monroe, Katie Monroe and Genevieve Paur.
The Williams Bay High School concert choir closed out the program with “I Am A Trav’ler” featuring soloist Aiden Steberg; “Danny Boy” featuring Dophia Sanchez on the flute; “Be Like the Bird” featuring soloist Katrina Granberg; “James Bond Theme;” “Bring Me Little Water Silvy” featuring body percussion; “In Flanders Fields,” a WWI song; and, “The Impossible Dream” from Man of La Mancha, featuring Soloist Evan Rees.
Following the program there was a brief parent meeting to answer any questions about the trip to New York City. Students left March 30 and returned late last week.
