The Big Foot Wolves, a local youth football program for kids in grade school, will host its 18th annual Pig Roast fundraiser, 2 to 11 p.m., Saturday at Toynton Park in Walworth.
Entertainment and a variety of games that will feature prizes for kids and adults will be available. Dinner will run from 3 to 8 p.m. (or until the food – six pigs’ worth – runs out.)
The cost for a pig roast dinner is $10 and includes a pork sandwich, beans, applesauce, chips, pickles, soda and dessert.
The Wolves will also have a variety of apparel for sale including t-shirts, hoodie sweatshirts and hats.
All proceeds from the event will support the Big Foot Wolves organization.
About the Wolves
The Big Foot Wolves formed in 1998 as a response to the communities within the Big Foot School district that desired a youth tackle football and cheerleading program for grade school students.
Working closely with the high school football coaches, a program was developed and the Wolves joined the Illinois Youth Football League organization.
The program continues to operate under the original goals that were created at the inception of the team – teaching the fundamentals of football to youth, the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, working together with others to reach a common goal and develop a sense of accomplishment in each participant. Other goals included bringing the youth from all area schools into a program where they could start to form working relationships with future classmates. Entire families are involved in the program through activities such as fundraising, working at games and providing other skills needed.
While the players are under the guidance of their coaches, doing the best they can do scholastically and socially are two other goals the Wolves feel very strongly about.
The mission of The Big Foot Wolves is to provide an enjoyable experience for young adolescents based on their developmental characteristics and needs.
The development of young adolescent’s self-esteem, citizenship, responsibility, and skills in cooperative and leadership behaviors are positive outcomes of appropriate athletic programs.
These programs should be enjoyable, vigorous, and safe and should occur in a positive climate with appropriate adult leadership and support.
