A 67-year-old Sharon man died Wednesday afternoon after his SUV was hit by a car at the intersection of highways 67 and K in Sharon.
According to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, Loren Huffman died at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly after 2 p.m.
According to the release, 19-year-old Isabel Lavariega Bazan, of Sharon, was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus northbound on Highway K when she failed to stop at the stop sign on Highway 67 and crashed into Huffman’s 2008 Subaru Outback. The brown Subaru was westbound on Highway 67 with the right of way and was struck in the driver’s side by the Ford Taurus.
Huffman suffered critical injuries, according to the release, and despite life-saving efforts at the scene, he was pronounced dead by the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office at 3:45 p.m.
Lavariega Bazan suffered significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital, the release states.
The drivers were the only occupants in each vehicle.
Agencies that responded to this crash include the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, Village of Sharon Police Department, Sharon and Walworth Fire and EMS, Medix Ambulance Service, Mercy MD1Doctors, and the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office.
