The 4th Annual Agape House 5K Run/Walk/Stroll April 29 saw more than 200 people participate and help raise money for Agape, which provides a school, safe home and counseling for teens girls and their families.
Prior to the event, Pam Patterson, the director at Agape House, thanked all of those who were in attendance. Those who raised the most money for the event were: Sophia Zumich, Bev Vosquil and Sharine Fleming.
John Palmer, of Fontana, blew the horn to start the event and the group was off and running, walking or strolling. The course featured two loops so those who were cold or tired could stop after one loop.
Following the event, people gathered for a beverage, a boxed meal from Best Events and a time to visit with other participants.
Patterson said the event resulted in approximately $15,000 being raised for Agape House. The money will go toward scholarships for the residents.
Currently, 12 girls are living in Agape House. Patterson also announced that Nov. 2 will be the 20-year anniversary of the Agape House mission.
Sponsors for the 5K included: Kunes Country Ford Lincoln, WW Trucking, Knead 2 Relax Therapeutic Massage, Johns Disposal Service, Godfrey, Leibsle, Blackbourn & Howarth, S.C., MPC, Inc., MGA Innovation and M.E.Rydberg. Product and service sponsors included: Dean Foods Company, John Palmer, Best Events Catering and Rentals and Triple Crown Products, Inc.
The event is held in April, which is also National Child Abuse Prevention Month, to increase awareness of all forms of abuse.
The shirts for this year’s event said, “Run the Race with Love.”
