Kelly Freeman thanked for her many years or service to Walworth schools

Longtime Walworth Joint 1 School District Board of Education member Kelly Freeman was honored for her 48 years of service at the board’s monthly meeting on Monday.
Newly elected School Board President Mary Heyer, who previously served as clerk, thanked Freeman for her many years of service.
Freeman, who was presented with flowers and a candle, briefly addressed those in attendance, talking about the many years of service for not only her, but her ancestors as well.
Nancy Rasmussen, longtime friend of Kelly Freeman and former teacher, shared a video showing photos from the Freeman’s many years of service.
Rasmussen also shared a letter from Freeman’s daughters, which said they were sorry to miss the program, though were very proud of Freeman’s service to the grade school and happy for what they had learned about the importance of education from her.
Mary Heyer said Freeman always put education first and she thanked her for her many years of service.
Freeman spoke to the group after the moving video, sharing the history of her life and the early involvement in the events of the school.
Freeman, who attended twelve years of school in the building, said she loved the school and every part of it.
“You take care of our children and teach them the love of learning,” she said. education should be honored and the state would not move forward without strong education.
“I’m just passionate about our school,” she said.
Pat Werner, a former school board member who was unable to make the program, later said that “Every community needs a Kelly.”
After the program, those attending went to the multi-purpose room for cake and refreshments. Freeman also received a gift basket full of items from the faculty at the Walworth Grade School.
